ABOUT ME: Currently going to school for engineering. Was in the military for 5yrs. Stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Now back home...................
What I have learned from my experience in the Military is that some people have died prior to you and the unfortunate thing is that some people may die after you. Now that I am out of active duty I reflect on my past experiences. I remember those days where I spent countless days in Iraq going through the hot summer months and cold nights, hearing those rounds crack past me and those explosions that caused my heart to skip a beat. I was terrified at times and their there were times where it didn’t even matter anymore. I remember the first fire fight I was in, it was scary for a moment, then the weird thing, that the scary feeling went away. It felt unreal and the training kicked it and I did what I had to do. The worst feeling that I have ever felt was when you realize the empty seat in the mess hall, the battle buddy who is no longer here, or the friend who did not return from patrol, is really gone forever. It can really break a person down. But what you do next is to carry on the commitment to carry on with the mission in their honor. This to me is not just another holiday that I'm off, just another time to have a cookout. ... I will truly see it as a holiday to honor fallen comrades, and you should too.
