Show more ABOUT ME: I've been described (by my publicist) as a provocative, ambitious, and engaging producer, that has taken the independent film community by storm with groundbreaking documentary and feature projects. And that I've never been shy about tackling a hard subject or a controversial fire storm.
Probably because my current documentary, "Anarchy Ahead", which I wrote, directed and produced, is poised to blow the whistle on serious nationwide Family Court malpractices. I have spent the past three years conducting extensive research, collected hours of supporting interviews, and reams of implicating documents, and exposed a pattern of legal abuses that perpetuate the breakdown of the American Family.
My early acting career was cut short by an injury when I was working on "I Know What You Did Last Summer", but I stayed in the game finding original independent projects to produce. My first feature, "Metal" (written and directed by the amazingly artistic Christopher E. Brown), was shot in just 8 days in the rough neighborhood of Hunter's Point, San Francisco. It was a gritty and dramatic portrayal of a poor black family in turmoil that went on to receive stellar reviews and awards at festivals worldwide. It premiered, and was a critical favorite, at the Mill Valley Film Festival, won the Jury Prize at the Pan African Film Festival, and Best Picture at the Seattle Underground Film Festival, along with several Best Director nods around the globe.
Following the success of "Metal", I re-teamed with Brown to produce his follow up, "Jesus of Cinema", a 35mm feature. Another challenging drama, and the end of a working relationship with Brown (when he failed to deliver the film within the specs required). I had to have the film cut down to 90 minutes (from nearly 3 hours), and although the film also went on to a successful festival run under it's new title "Making Metamorphosis" it was still described by Daily Variety as a Naval Gazing Experience. For me it was a learning experience and illustrated more than ever, no matter how brilliant and talented your actors are (and they were spectacular) they cannot overcome flawed script.
I am presently in post-production on Felicia Giouzelias' film "My Sexuality", a documentary exploring the relationship between a woman's self-esteem and her view of her sexual-self (see my Blog and Felicia's comment in my blog space). A heartwarming and fun glimpse into the transformation of 5 average women into sexy vixens through classes and make-overs I am sure will win over audiences with this witty and intellegent project.
At present, I have four features in pre-production with my company, 21st Century Pictures Group, and am venturing back in front of the camera for three acting roles in 2006, as well as launching a Self-Help book series for women.
